High-tech end mills for high-tech micro production tasks.
This exhibit is a solid carbide micro-grain end mill for micro cutting in the µm range. The end mill is available with a cutting edge diameter of 0.03 mm (30µm) as a slot milling machine.
The micro end milling cutter presented here, which is ready to go into production, is the first of its kind with definitive cutting geometry. No other product presented to date displays this vital detail. For the most part, they only have one cutting edge or have the shape of a stylus.
Hitachi Tool has developed this tool to enable precision milling work in the µm range. At the same time, the cutting edge on this tool is half the size of a grown person’s hair.
This end mill makes it possible to directly mill in tempered materials such as 40 HRC steel without the need for any interim steps. As a result, there is usually no need any more to produce a graphite electrode. At the same time, it is frequently possible to eliminate the highly time-consuming EDM process. The mould is milled directly instead.
Possible applications for this innovative tool are future production methods in the fields of bio-engineering and medical engineering or in the production of micro moulds for the plastics and synthetics industry.
